Play retro games from Game Boy, Nintendo DS, PSP, N64, PlayStation, and more on your iPhone or iPad.

Great News! As of 2024, emulators are officially allowed on the App Store! Many emulators like Delta, PPSSPP, and RetroArch are now available for direct download.

Are Emulators Legal?

Yes, emulators themselves are completely legal. Emulators are software that mimics hardware - they don't contain any copyrighted code from the original consoles.

However, the ROMs (game files) are a different matter. It's legal to create backups of games you own, but downloading ROMs for games you don't own is piracy.

Getting ROMs

Emulators need ROM files (game data) to work. Here are legal ways to obtain ROMs:

Legal Options

  • Dump your own games - Create backups from cartridges/discs you own
  • Homebrew games - Many free, legal homebrew games exist
  • Public domain ROMs - Some older games are now public domain
  • Developer releases - Some developers release old games for free

Legal Notice: Downloading ROMs for games you don't own is piracy and illegal. We don't link to ROM sites. Please respect developers' intellectual property.

Adding ROMs to Emulators

  1. Download ROM files to your device (Files app)
  2. Open the emulator
  3. Use the import or "+" function to add ROMs
  4. Or share ROM files to the emulator via Share Sheet
